Unusual in it’s kind, the French Model 1821 was the first officer swords model made after the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. The average models have a brass hilt and steel blade sometimes engraved with a makers mark or regimentnumber. This example belonged to a very high ranked officer because the brass hilt is silvered and so is the lower section of the blade. The upper part of the blade is blued, engraved and gilded wich was popular among officers. The scabbard is made of leather and has a brass silvered fittings. The handle is made of horn wrapped in copper wire. The pommel is revited to the blade and in typical Second Empire style.
