An Excellent Chinese Hudiedao Butterfly sword

Description

A very good Chinese Hudiedao (蝴蝶刀) double sword in original scabbard. Dating from the second half of the 19th century. This type is the wide, thin bladed type with is seen less often then the stick spined blades. The handles are carved in typical Chinese motives wich was most likely done in Canton. The typical shape of the knucklebow looping into a thumbrest was often made of a different brass then the regular fittings. This can be seen in the patination of the brass, very likely to be of a different compound to make it harder and able to resist cuts and strikes from the opponant.

Condition: Very good, some minor ware on the blades, further excellent.

Dimensions:

Handles: 14.5cm

Blades: 39.5cm long

Scabbard: 40cm
