A fine ‘Sikin Pasangan‘ from North Sumatra, the ‘Sikin Pasangan‘ was widely used by the Acehnese during the 19th and early 20th century.
The blade is quite distinctive and is curved with paralel edges ending towards the tip. Most are made of pattern welded steel and welded to the hilt.
The blade is rather flexible, but made of high quality and has its original washing which shows a dark contractual welding pattern.
The hilt is made of karbouw horn (Bubalis arnee) and known locally as ‘Hulu Pasangan‘ with its typical pronouncing ends. The hilt is carved in symmetrical motifs which are often seen in North Sumatra. A fine functional example which was worn by Acehnese warriors during the Aceh expeditions up til the early 20th century.
Condition: Fair condition, the hilt has some damage and a crack on the horn and ferrule, the blade itself is excellent.
